Robert Smith Surtees (1805-1864) was an English editor and novelist, most widely known for the cockney character of Jorrocks. This work appeared posthumously, the year following the author's death.First edition and rarer in the original cloth.Illustrated by John Leech and Hablot Knight Browne. Leech (1817-1864) was a caricaturist and illustrator, know for his work published in humour magazine 'Punch'. He was also the first illustrator of Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol'. Hablot Knight Browne (1815-1882) often illustrated under the pen-name Phiz. He illustrated ten works of Dickens, including 'David Copperfield', 'Dombey and Son', 'The Pickwick Papers' and 'Bleak House'.With plentiful steel engravings in colour throughout. In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally a trifle worn; some loss to the tail of the spine as a result of bumping. Otherwise some general wear. Internally, firmly bound.
