[Crime Mystery] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (22 x 15cm), pp.viii; 190 [2]. With twelve engravings by Fildes and a frontispiece portrait of Dickens. Contemporary green half morocco, with gilt titles and ruling to spine, and marbled paper over boards. All edges speckled red. All plates present, but not bound in accordance with the list of illustrations. Moderate spotting to edges, and to first and final few leaves. Spine sunned with some rubbing, and light general wear to boards. Very good. Charles Dickens' final, unfinished novel. Completing only six of twelve planned instalments before his death, Dickens was never able to reveal the solution to the mystery. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 66573

Contemporary half scarlet calf over marbled paper-covered sides, full gilt back, marbled edges and endpapers. Nineteenth century book label 'Henry William Symes'. All plates present. Contents clean, some sporadic foxing, tissue guard toned, no inscriptions, binding gently aged. A near fine copy. Charles Dickens' final, unfinished novel.
