Beschreibung
8vo. [4]1-59[1]p. Illustrations in black inside and red and black outside by Be Jones. Glossary of Hawaiian words on inside of rear wrapper. Stapled booklet in tan wrappers printed with black letters and with a vignette in red and black of a fishing net draped over what may be a cross. Just hints of wear to extremities, wrappers clean and bright, no rust on the staples, corners square and flat, else fine with no internal markings. ¿The Net is tightly drawn about an earlier era of Hawaii. Each character is caught within this mesh where the lives of early Scottish settlers, Hawaiians, Chinese intertwine in a web of anger, passion, hatred, love. The Net captures the flavor of Pidgin dialect, the stern outlook of Donald Macdonald, the soft understanding of the Hawaiians, the mysterious wisdom of the Chinese. Alexa von Tempsky has ensnared the composite lives and life of an Hawaii she has known and spun a story that could only happen in Hawaii.¿ [from the rear cover] Alexa von Tempsky comes from a long line of kamaainas, some of the family arriving in the Sandwich Islands in 1825. She lives on the same Kula ranchland her family established in 1898. The author invites the reader to share her strong aloha for the Hawaiian Islands and the people of Hawaii.¿ [from inside the front cover]. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 008274
