First edition, hardcover, 1879, Washington. Large heavy book has been professionally recased using original boards and spine, new endpapers. Paginates complete with all images and maps (13 European, 8 Inuit). Large folding map in rear pocket backed with linen, two panels with marbled paper over linen. Frontis portrait is heavy brittle stock and looks to have been reattached. Excellent interior with no ownership markings, no foxing, all images bright. Binding is sound. Boards show moderate patina, stains, etc but gilt remains bright. Old spine laid down over matching cloth looks rough but is not fragile. Arctic Biblio 6486.
