Beschreibung
A good copy in contemporary half leather binding with 30 plates of which 28 are hand coloured. With armorial bookplate of Sidney Wentworth of Longstowe Hall to the front pastedown endpaper and signature of A Shafto Barthropp (a member of the same family) to the fep. Contents: series half title; frontispiece portrait of Lacepede with tissue guard; vignette title page with hand coloured picture of narwhal; 2 further title pages; advertisement; contents listing; Memoir of M. Le Comte de Lacepede; text with engravings and 30 plates with tissue guards at the rear. Although the plate index has plates numbered to 29, there are two versions of plate 4 - one numbered IV. The binding is clean and sound with small gilted raised bands to spine, 2 compartments for title and volume labels (now missing) and 3 compartments with textured leather. The boards are a heavy duty cloth which has some fading to edges. There is light scuffing to spine joints and the top corners are turned inwards with some leather loss. Bottom corners and edges with light wear. The contents are in very good clean condition with well coloured plates. There is some spotting and offsetting to some tissue guards. Final text leaves have a small fold at the top corner - this continues through the plates. Book size 17 cm x 11 cm. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 033125
