Last date on the title page is 1944, however upon reading the Publisher's Note opposite the copyright page, it states this title was first published in folio pages (not a book) through the Peabody Museum of Harvard University. Only after the author, and former Harvard professor, Clyde Kluckhohn's death in 1960, was this material assembled and formatted for a hardcover edition, to be published in 1962. This is the first hardcover edition of this rare title, in its original, scarce DJ. Binding and hinges are sound. Old, light soiling to page edges. Previous owner's name and date written on corner of FFEP. A vintage Magnolia Warbler stamp is on FFEP. RFEP has a small vintage book store sticker (with a cool dinosaur) identifying this copy was sold at the American Museum of Natural History, in NYC. Original $4.95 price intact on DJ flap. Book shows shelf-rubbing to bottom corner tips. Scarce DJ shows an open chip across the bottom front with chipping along spine ends of DJ. DJ shows soiling, with slght sunning to DJ spine.
