Stated First American Edition, though based on the publisher's address, this is a (later) 1858 printing of that edition. Attractive modern rebind in full brown leather with raised band and gilt tilting on the spine. Good. A previous owner's handwritten name was excised at the top of the title page. All the title text remains intact, but the top three-quarter inch of the page has been removed. Some mild dampstaining affecting the first and last few pages. Thereafter pages lightly browned and with a just a touch of foxing. A rather scarce relatively early edition in the English language. Translation by Andrew Motte. 581 pages.
