These are two (2) volumes, published six years apart (1907 and 1913) in the Norwegian language, in a "Fraktur" typeface, such as used in Germany. They are paginated 4 to 502 for the first volume and 506 to 1008 for the second. One point of interest is that Ulvestad wrote his first Foreword ("Forord") in Minneapolis in 1906, then his second in Tacoma, Washington in 1913. The first volume includes a roughly 32" wide x 22" high eight-panel fold-out map, printed on both sides and copyrighted 1901, which shows the geographic distribution of Norwegian immigrants to North America, primarily the USA. Pasted inside the back cover, this outline map has population keyed in red. Condition of the two volumes is good, though the front cover is separating at the front paste down. There is also a split or crack at pages 384-385. Both volumes are variously sunned and have some small stains, but the titles, graphic devices, and replica signatures in gold leaf are all readable. In thumbing through both volumes, only one former ownership label was found: This being an address label on the front free end paper of volume 2. The map appeared nearly "as new." A few instances of foxing were observed, as was one stray pencil mark on page 603, and a very small tear on the leaf of pages 599-600. These books measure about 9" wide x 12" high, and about 4-1/2" thick when stacked together. Net weight for the set is about 12 pounds. Extra shipping charges required.
