Beschreibung
A slim, unillustrated, detailed history of the dockyard containing details of staff from its 16th Century origin to 1946. Other content includes a list of ships constructed at Chatham and a history of the development of the dockyard. Very good in paper wraps with a chipped and embrowned glasseine wrapper and rusted staples. Uncommon with only 4 copies located in COPAC. Tipped in slip about the father of Charles Dickens working at the Navy Pay Office at Chatham until 1823 with a further note in the text referring to the young Dickens accompanying his Father, in the Pay Office yacht, to pay ships at Sheerness port.
