Leather spine mostly missing, binding shaken and some pages loose. Pages marked and tanned. Illustrated with 9 original albumen prints by J. A. Spencer, depicting ancient carvings in ivory. Provenance: armorial book plate on the front end paper for Paul Winby. 54pp. Approximately 11 ½ inches tall. Condition Report Externally Spine poor condition leather absent, some loss to the top and tail. Joints poor condition structurally sound and holding, leather missing, webbing visible. Corners fair condition bumped and worn with some loss. Boards fair condition decorated front and rear boards with black lettering to the upper and date 1855 on the rear, general signs of wear. Page edges good condition top edge darkened, all tanned and foxed. See above and photos. Internally Hinges good condition both intact. Paste downs good condition plain, lightly tanned with some foxing. End papers good condition plain, the front end paper has an armorial book plate Paul Winby , with the message Given To me by Audrey Baker, March 2001 written across the bottom of the book plate, lightly tanned with some foxing, subsequent end papers tanned and foxed. Title fair to good condition lightly tanned with some minor foxing. Pages fair to good condition pages shaken with some loose but still attached, half title present, tissue guarded frontispiece Leaf Of A Book-Cover Of The Sixth Century , the tissue has some foxing, 9 photographic illustrations in total, pages 3-5 are hanging on by the threads, tanned and foxed throughout, with wear to page edges with minor loss.
