First American Edition. Octavo. 24cm. Publisher's original buff cloth titled and dramatically decorated in blue and red to spine and front board. 305pp. Bumping and softening to spine ends, some light bumping to extremities, and some tape residue and areas of soiling to the cloth. Internally clean, with free library discard stamps to the front and rear endpapers, library blind stamp to the title page and first page of text, and an old, discreet library number to the contents leaf, also present is a small closed tear to the upper edge of the title page. The library markings are small and relatively inoffensive, and originated at the Coburn Free Library in Owego, NY, founded in 1910. Slightly shaken in its case, top edge stained blue. Scraping into the category of very good, a strong, clean ex-library copy with some wear. A dense and serious history of the organizations, methods, and purpose of the Ochrana, Imperial Russia's notorious secret police force, operating under pretty much its own custody between 1883 and 1917.
