(indexes, errata), first part with gradually diminishing waterstain mainly in the lower right outer corner, light browning, foxing in places et some rare other tiny stains, marbled endpaper, marbled calf binding on raised bands, red morocco gilt lettered label on gold-tooled spine, skillful repairs to top and bottom of spine and to front hinge, corners and edges somewhat rubbed or scraped, one corner bumped, marbled edges. Premiere edition fran$4aise. First edition in French language, ?translations of his «Chirurgie .» (including the third part «Anatomia practica .») and of «Pest-beschryving», based on the Latin versions by Gelder, Leyden, 1772? This interesting work gives insight into the former state of the medicine and also contains the full description of the plague. Illustrated with engraved frontispiece and 1 copper-engraved plate.Barbette, born in Strassburg, was a surgeon in Amsterdam, and one of the most consulted medical doctors in his time. he summarizes all knowledge and experience in the field of surgery and he demonstrates the relation of surgery with internal medicine; in the «Anatomia practica» he describes the blood formation in detail and the circulation of the blood; in his work on the plague he describes in detail his observations of the epidemy of 1655 and differentiates between two forms (with and without fever).
