First Edition (first printing) of this anthology of eighteen accounts of public schooling. 8vo. 256pp. Black cloth lettered in blue at the spine and upper board. Edges lightly spotted, with a touch of marking to the cloth. A dash of spotting to the title page, and with some further occasional mostly marginal spotting. Contemporary date inked to the head of the front free endpaper, beneath a small area of Tip-Ex'd erasure. Very good but lacking the fugitive dust wrapper. A two-page preface by the editor precedes contributions by Anthony Powell, W.H.Auden, H.E.Bates, Stephen Spender, Elizabeth Bowen, Walter Greenwood, L.P.Hartley, William Plomer, Derek Verschoyle, Antonia White, and Greene himself (a ten-page essay, 'The Last Word', about his Berkhamsted schooling). The first book edited by Greene, of which 1,517 copies were printed. Wobbe A7. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers ARC92658
