Oxford: Printed by W. Jackson, 1761, First and only Edition, scarce. Frontispiece dedication to Speaker Onslow, i-vi, Contents [6], v-xiv Preface, 15-143, [1], 1-38 appendix, [1]-8 Postscript; 2 engraved plates (including the frontis), printed by W. Jackson and sold by R. and J. Dodsley (et al). Hole writes in support of the church wardens, who had ornamented the church in various ways, in particular with a stained glass window, which opponents considered 'a superstitious image or picture', further objecting that it had been put up without a licence. The parishioners eventually won their case, and the window stayed. The plates show a plan of the window and Onslow on his seat in the church. Approximately 10 ¼ inches tall. Condition Report Externally Spine good condition gilt titles on red label, 5 raised gilt edges bands dividing 6 compartments, gilt date to the foot. Joints good condition sound. Corners good condition. Boards good condition quarter leather/marbled boards, both boards are gently bowed. Page edges good condition top edge darkened, fore and bottom edges tanned and foxed. See above and photos. Internally Hinges good condition sound. Paste downs good condition plain paste downs. End papers good condition plain end papers. Title good condition at the top of the title page there is Wm. Hxxe hand written either side of the word of , tanned and foxed. Pages good condition half title page, b/w tissue guarded frontispiece (loose tissue guard), one further plate, pages are tanned and foxed throughout. Binding good condition sound.
