630pp. Octavo [23 cm] Light brown pictorial cloth with gilt titles. Frontispiece portraits of the authors with tissue guard. Illustrated plates, portraits, folding map (at the rear). Good plus. The extremities are moderately rubbed and bumped. The rear endsheet is split along the hinge, the hinge is going, and the text block is cracked sporadically throughout. With the marbled paper covered slipcase, in very good condition, with moderate edge wear and a thin 2" long abrasion to the side panel. Adams Six-Guns, 1897. Wright-Howes, R 434. Flake 7417. According to Adams Six-Guns, "The original is very rare and is considered the standard history of early stage lines.
