Beschreibung
4to. (8.5 x 11") 222p. Profusely illustrated with black and white captioned photos of individuals and groups. Frontispiece full-color drawing by Bernice Brown, Art Editor of the yearbook which shows two women in Art Deco dresses walking along a rose-bordered path. One other image appears to have been hand-colored. Numerous black and white drawings by the following: M. Bishop, R. Patin, Bill Seeman, Edith Edinger, H. Betrix, Lenore Hess, Florence Spring, as well as others. Lapping brown flexible wrappers made to look like leather with an inset in gilt on the front cover in blue, brown and gilt of the front of Polytechnic High School. Just touches of wear to extremities, corners square and flat, a couple of tine spots on the rear wrapper, gilt on front wrapper slightly dulled, else near fine to fine with no internal markings other than the expected signatures, notes to the owner of the book, and the like. Book is dedicated to Ethel Blaine Magee, who was Head of the English Department and faculty advisor to The Polytechnic Student for many years. Some of the faculty photos are signed, e.g., W.A. Dunn, Principal and W.L. Richer, Vice-Principal, and there are other faculty signatures beside group photos. Polytechnic High School opened in 1897 as the commercial branch of Los Angeles High School. Over the years it had many famous alumni. Besides photos and some descriptive narrative, this volume includes several literary pieces as follows: "Common Sense in Cows" by Elinor Ives; "Lost in the Blizzard" by Ralph H. Watkins; "One Woeful Afternoon" by Dulcie Dixon; "The Transformation of an English Boy" by Matthew Barr; "The Storm" by David Ehrsam; "A Prophet I Met" by David Emmanuel; as well as several poems by various authors. It is an understatement to say this is a real period piece from Los Angles of the 20th century. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 009091
