First edition, scarce, 'printed for private circulation'.Signed by the author to the title page, which reads, 'Captain G. H. A. Forbes D. A. A. G. +c. with the author's best comp. June 9th 1866'.Illustrated with a frontispiece depicting Jane Myddelton to the front of text.This is a biographical account of Jane Myddelton (1645-1692), the 'English beauty' of the Restoration period who was often referred to as one of the 'Windsor Beauties'. Though Myddelton was married, she was courted by many men including Ralph Montagu and Laurence Hyde.Written by George Steinman Steinman (1811-1893), who wrote a range of works include 'Addenda to a Memoir of Barbara, Duchess of Cleveland', 'Althrope Memoirs', and 'A History of Croydon'.Collated, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Wear to the extremities and the head and tail of spine. Marks and fading to boards. Front hinge is straining and rear hinge is starting. Front endpaper has detached from binding. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with age-toning to the top edge of text.
