Mercer Johnston (1860-1954) was an Episcopal clergyman who had served as a missionary in the Philippines; he was evidently gassed during World War One. As a socialist, he was Chair of the National Progressive Headquarters and involved with LaFollette.This is a Near Fine copy of the First Edition. Dark green cloth binding with gilt titling on the front cover and spine. Clean text; 218 pages, very fresh and bright. Contemporary (1918) signature on the FFEP.
