The Irish politician Justin McCarthy (1830-1912) was a nationalist in the Home Rule camp, as well as a very popular historian. Interestingly, he also wrote novels (as would his son). This is a Very Good copy of the First American Edition. Quite scarce; this edition not in LOC or Copac. There is no publication date. However, the London edition was published in 1866; Quercus has therefore assigned a date one year later, as textual indications are that it could not have been a simultaneous event. Brick red cloth binding, stamped in the blind and filled with black and (on spine) gilt. Clean text; 390 pages; previous-owner signatures on the front paste-down. Mildly bumped, and some rub at margins of spine. Size: 12mo - over 6�" - 7�" tall. Bestandsnummer des Verk�ufers 002165
