Beschreibung
First edition. Staple-bound softcover book in plain card covers, with illustrated paper dustjacket. 27pp. with color illustrations. With brief texts from Tom Eccles and Susan K. Freedman, director and president of the Public Art Fund, respectively. Also includes a conversation between Jeffrey Kastner, Paul Pfeiffer, Lawrence Chua, John Letourneau, and Tom Eccles. This is a catalogue to a 2001 installation by Paul Pfeiffer entitled Orpheus Descending, which took place "in the bowels of the World Trade Center". It closed less than 3 months before the towers fell. The installation screened continuous CCTV surveillance captured of baby chicks, from incubation through their infancy. The work, whose title references the Tennessee Williams play in which "a wild-spirited boy [.] wanders into a conventional community of the South and creates the commotion of a fox in a chicken coop", was horribly, eerily portentous. Heavy scuffs to rear dustjacket, edgewear notably to lower edge of front of DJ. Page interiors are bright and crisp. Overall very good condition copy of this uncommon catalogue.
