Bound in green paper and enclosed in what appears to be a custom-made wraparound cover and separate slipcase, both with the same grainy green cloth. The slipcase has lettering in gold on the front cover and spine, repeating the lettering on the spine with the date "1919." A most unusual slipcase. The pages in the book have aged with time; otherwise, the book is in near fine condition. The spine of the slipcase is slightly sunned. Direct from the library of the late Hugh Selbourne MD (1906-1973) a noted book collector and diarist. In original paper wraps. Bound with half title and two pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear. Rear wrap advertises Shaw's 'How to Settle the Irish Question'. George Bernard Shaw was an Irish playwright, critic and polemicist whose influence on Western theatre, culture and politics extended from the 1880s to his death and beyond. He courted unpopularity by denouncing both sides in the First World War as equally culpable and although not a republican, castigated British policy on Ireland in the postwar period. This text reviews the policies and political history prior to the First World War and gives Shaw's views on war. In original paper wraps. Externally, smart.
