Illustrated paper covered boards chipped to corners with some shelfwear and slight colour loss; paper starting to come away where it meets the spine on the reverse. Inlaid colour vignette on the front cover. Blue cloth spine with black lettering. Binding strong and square. Front pastedown comprises blue/black/white ex-libris page, with name and address filled in. Fep with two gift inscriptions, the first to Alec Mackenzie August 1921, and the second to his cousin Alan 'in remembrance' of Alec after he was killed in the war "who with so many gave all for us". Frontispiece full colour illustration, duplicating that on the front cover. Illustrated title page. Some tanning to rear endpapers. Unpaginated, with colour plates and b/w illustrations. Contents clean and bright. Herbert Strang was the pseudonym of two English authors, George Herbert Ely (1866 1958) and Charles James L'Estrange (1867 1947). They specialized in writing adventure stories for boys, both historical and modern-day. The pseudonym was also employed for several series of anthologies, works such as the current volume "edited by Herbert Strang" that also included The Big Book of School Stories for Boys and The Oxford Annual for Scouts.RightWayUp Books aims to provide accurate and detailed descriptions.
