Original, vintage photograph and a handwritten letter by Tagore's secretary, Amiya Chakravarty. A letter and a photograph, size ca. 90 × 137. Photograph of Rabindranath Tagore, "Bard of Bengal" with a handwritten letter by his secretary. The letter, dated India, 20 June 1932 was written by Tagore's secretary, Amiya Chakravarty. The header of the card reads "Uttarayan", Saniniketan, Birbhum. The Uttarayan complex was Tagore's home in Santiniketan, a neighborhood of Bolpur city, which was established by his father and expanded by Tagore. Amiya Chandra Chakravarty (1901-1986) was an Indian literary critic, academic, and Bengali poet. He was a close associate of Rabindranath Tagore, and edited several books of his poetry. He was also an associate of Gandhi, and an expert on the American catholic writer and monk, Thomas Merton. In his letter, Chakravarty forwards Tagore's approval for one of his works to be translated and published by the receiver, who remains unnamed. . Letter slightly discolored.
