Pink cloth is bright and clean; stamped in purple titles on spine. Peach endpapers are bright and clean. Foxing along page edges; scant light foxing within. DJ shows soiling, with light handling and scuffing. Thin impression line on DJ front; very faint on front panel (barely.) Light sunning to DJ spine. An uncommon first edition in its original rare DJ, with price intact. Traditionally, the only hardcovers of this title that seem to surface are either bookclub editions, or ex-library copies. Very few first editions surface, and even fewer DJ's with price on upper flap. Prior to the Tony award winning, smash-hit revival, this musical was equally successful when it premiered at the Imperial Theater on October 23, 1972, and ran for 1,944 performances. It was directed and choreographed by Bob Fosse. The original cast was led by Ben Vereen as Leading Player, John Rubinstein as Pippin, Eric Berry as Charlemagne, Leland Palmer as Fastrada, Christopher Chadman as Lewis, Irene Ryan as Berthe, Jill Clayburgh as Catherine, and Shane Nickerson as Theo.
