Neville analyzes the Youth Movement?the antagonistic alliance between the New Left (the alphabet soup of radical student protest, S.D.S., etc.) and the Underground of hippies, beats, mystics, madmen, freaks, yippies, crazies, crackpots, communards, etc.; the Underground of drugs, rock music, communal living, alternate media, organized violence, street theater and poetry, love and revolution. The first section takes you on a tour of scenes of protest on campus and street. In spite of national differences, the evolution of the youth counter-culture has emphasized similarities that cross national and language borders. Movement members share solidarity and common aspirations, style, mood and vocabulary. Long hair is their declaration, pop music their esperanto, and they puff pot in their peace pipe. "Group Grope" describes the change in sexual style?women's liberation, communes, and the abolition of the pornographic mentality. ?Pop" is classless, international, and a potent if paradoxical force for change. ' 'Guerrilla Press" surveys the underground press- Besides listing papers, Play Power discusses in detail the "styles and strategies" of the new Movement: how pornography, obscenity and sedition are integral social and political techniques of confrontation. '"On the Road to Katmandu" offers some practical advice on the trails of the exotic East (where to stay for how much). The ' 'Politics of Play" is the philosophy and the common ingredient of the daring new strategy which will disrupt, outrage, and revolutionize society in the seventies. Play Power is a frenetic, panoramic book, important for those who consider themselves part of the Movement, and essential for those who are outside it. RICHARD NEVILLE was born in Sydney, Australia, in 1941. He founded the controversial magazine Oz in Sydney and London, and continues [1970] to edit it from London when not on the international underground road. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 001426
