8vo. Terra cotta cloth with blue spine lettering, dust jacket. 62pp. Near fine/very good. Endpapers a tad age toned; heavy stock jacket typically age toned and lightly soiled. Handsome, super tight first edition of the first book by the famed poet and translator (1910-85). Laid in is a 3½" X 2" card on which is boldly penned "Mr. & Mrs. / Herbert Sonthoff" in black ink -- whether this is the political dissident who had fled Nazi Germany for the U.S. in the middle of World War II is unknown; also unknown is whether this card might be in the handwriting of Fitzgerald, as substantial handwriting exemplars of his earlier script are unavailable -- but noted here simply as worth further research.
