Beschreibung
This is a private, posthumously, published collection of poems by the son of the author. Very good in blue faux lizard skin binding with two lithos of Waltham Abbey initialled "I.M." by the artist. Subjects include: Waltham Abbey c. 1812; Sebastopol Dec. 1854; the Hartley Colliery Calamity 1862; the Blackwall Railway 1840. Uncommon - only one copy cited in the online COPAC and this copy has additional pages including an Appendix that reprints letters from William Wordsworth and Victor Hugo referring to his poems. Inscribed in pencil on FFEP "Birdie Decr. 17th 1886". A poem, dated August 1859, entitled "Chester" begins "Fellow Traveller, 'tis not well/ To know a city by its smell,/ Do not think that I'm a jester/ The Place I mean is Ancient Chester." The poem goes on for another 10 verses on similar vein. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 001025
