A very scarce first edition of this anthology of Theophile Gautier's poetry. Particularly scarce in the original delicate wraps. Internally, an exceptionally bright copy with several gatherings unopened to the top edge.Illustrated, with an engraved caricature portrait of Gautier and a folding plate of music.One of 150 copies produced on Holland paper.In the original French. In the original paper wraps. Externally, front wrap is detached but present. Chipping to the edges of both wraps. Section of rear wrap has torn away from the rest. Damage to the wraps is consistent with type of paper used for binding. Internally, binding is tender in places. Pages are extremely bright. Gatherings are unopened to the top edge. Good.
