The artist, Ben Shahn has signed and dated this volume on the front free end paper in ink. A previous owner has also signed this volume on the same page with a gift inscription in ink. The book has 148 reproductions and photographs in black-and-white in this 180 page, including the Index, volume. There is foxing to the end papers and faint beginnings of foxing on some of the internal pages. Several upper corners of the leafs have been bent and straightened. The dust wrapper is in two pieces, the front flap is detached from the rest of the fragile wrapper which has multiple areas of paper missing. The missing paper seems to be concentrated at the spine and folds. The majority of the front cover, an image from the 1946 poster "Hunger" is intact. The wrapper has has multiple folds and creases. The dust jacket is currently protected by a clear removable cover. The brown boards have a blue square with the artists name in gilt, and gilt lettering on the spine.
