Thenot By One of his Pupils, Published by Bliss, Wadsworth & Co., New York, 1834, 61 pp, 65 plates (two to each leaf rectos only), blind stamped floral cloth, 9.75 x 6 , 8vo. In good condition. Light wear to extremities with minor scuffing to corners and edges. Corners rubbed and slightly rounded. Spine abraded with crushing to ends. Gilt lettering on front board slightly scuffed, but intact. Modest soiling overall to surface of cloth. J.A. Anderson old hand signature on pastedown of Lambertville, New Jersey. Bookplate of Maurice Robert Des Marais on front pastedown. Des Marais was a longtime faculty member in the Department of Architecture at Penn State College of Arts and Architecture and a corporate member of the American Institute of Architects. Presentation of John Anderson to his friend Jane Mitchell Philadelphia January 5th, 1823 on fly. Anderson has also signed the title page. Light toning throughout with instance of scattered foxing and age stain. Rear end paper has art related math notations. Binding tight and intact. Please see photos. First American edition. Scarce. Highly regarded work on training to create proper perspective in painting and drawing. Owned by the first photographer of Lambertville, NJ John A. Anderson (1829-1917).
