Many of the treasures within this portion of God's Word lie relatively untouched and remain unfamilar. In this volume, Dr. John P. Milton, professor of Old Testament at Luther Theological Seminary, St. Paul, shows how relevant the message is to our needs. From one book of the Old Testament - Isaiah - teachings are related to central themes preached from the New Testament. John P. Milton (rather interesting name) explains how preaching can be deeply enriched when based on "the whole counsel of God." The first part begins with: "The Historical Milieu of the Book of Isaiah." The primary purpose of this book is to demonstrate how preaching from Isaiah can be applied and utilized each Sunday of the church year. Appropriate texts from Isaiah are selected for the various Sundays in Advent, Epiphany, Lent, and Trinity, and major and minor festival days, and fully explored in relation to the topic being used for that day. The teachings are systematically divulged though this. Twenty-five central themes of Biblical theology - holiness of God, Sin, Repentance, Forgiveness, Redemption, etc. as expounded upon in Isaiah are discussed. A complete listing is given of the great texts in Isaiah. As Dr. Milton says in his foreword: ". it is possible to go through the book chapter by chapter to aquaint people with the full message of Isaiah. .It is my hope and belief that the lessons from Isaiah will help messaging the New Testament and unite with it as one Word of God."
