Proceedings of the 29th meeting of the A.A.A.S. held in Boston in August 1880. Includes the landmark paper presented by Alexander Graham Bell, "On the Production and Reproduction of Sound by Light." The paper discusses Bell's work with Charles Sumner Tainter on the invention of the Photophone, a device capable of optically transmitting articulated sound and which, in experiments in the sping of 1880, produced the world's first wireless telephone communication. The paper is on page 115 to 136 of the volume and includes illustrations. The book is 386 pages total with paper covers, 6-1/4" by 9-7/8". A bright copy with a tight but rather weakly assembled binding. Has creases at the edges of the front cover with several small tears on the fore edge. Top corner on the back is torn off, about 1" deep. On the spine, there is a vertical tear at the center of the crown of the spine that extends 2-1/2". At the bottom of the tear (the word "American" in the title), there is a horizontal tear that extends left to the edge of the spine. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 003557
