Beschreibung
The first edition of a major work by a renowned Czech historian and writer Jan florian Hammerschmidt (1652-1735); the book deals with the history of Prague churches, chapels and palaces, as well as the history of Prague Castle and the Charles University. The copy lacks an etching in the frontispiece (Hammerschmidt's portrait surrounded by angels and allegorical depiction of the Vltava river; made by Michael Heinrich Rentz and Johann Daniel de Montalegre after a drawing by Jan Hiebel). However, the copy contains a head-piece with a portrait of John of Nepomuk, two initials and several tail-pieces. An index and a leave with errata are also included in the volume.
