Beschreibung
A smart first edition of this volume of essays on psychology and ethnology from English anthropologist William Halse Rivers Rivers. First edition. A collection of essays forming a diverse series of memoirs on ethnological subjects. With chapters on Freud's concept of "censorship", the concept of "soul substance" in New Guinea, ethnological analysis of culture, the contact of peoples, and more. Written by William Halse Rivers Rivers, an English anthropologist, neurologist, ethnologist and psychiatrist known for his treatment of First World War officers suffering shell shock. Rivers' most famous patient was the war poet Siegfried Sassoon. Edited with a preface and introduction by Sir Grafton Elliot Smith, an Australian-British anatomist, anthropologist, Egyptologist and a proponent of the hyper-diffusionist view of prehistory. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light bumping to the extremities and the odd small mark to the boards. Light fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting. Further spotting to the first and last few pages. Previous owner's ink stamp to the front endpaper. Very Good.
