Possessory soft cover with some occasional foxing spots and soft creases, original title page is not preserved and replaced with a copy, fore-edge shows some fraying, multiple creases across upper corner of first page, broken off minor piece of bottom corner of first page and top edge of first page, brown stain on the right margin of first four sheets. This one of the best guides to architecture of Moscow was published by the Moscow Architectural Society for their fifth congress in 1913. The book was addressed to professionals, and includes not only large number of pictures of buildings of that period, but also their plans and other special information. Many of these buildings have not survived till our days. According to the historian of architecture E. Kirichenko, the guide is still an extremely valuable source on the subject. It is forwarded by two essays on the history of Moscow architecture from the 14th to early 19th centuries by prominent Russian architects Fyodor Fyodorovich Gornostaev and Ilya Yevgrafovich Bondarenko. The guide is arranged topically. In addition to civil and Church architecture, it also includes chapters on the sewage system, railroads, factories and other industrial buildings, bridges and other river objects, public buildings, etc. Included about 300 photographs, drawings, schemes and plans. Ivan Pavlovich Mashkov (1867 1945) was a Russian architect and preservationist, notable for surveying and restoration of important medieval buildings and creating eclectic buildings with Russian Revival features. In 1908-1918 he co-chaired Moscow Architectural Society. He is credited with editing the best guide to architecture of Moscow, which came out in 1913. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 169
