"Point 1: Rear end papers tipped in. (This point NOT discussed Ahearn.) Point 2: P171 illus is light brown, or pinkish, as opposed to pale blue green, color found in 2nd state. Thus a 1st state, 1st edition. Mixed state books common. This book has two sections of pale green in text illus, between pp63-98 & 248-274. Weak binding. One loose plate @ p 236. Paper over both hinges cracked. Covers & pastedowns w minor soiling & extrems w minor wear. Gift note inside front cover dated 1905. Text & plates without any aging, soiling, foxing, glue browned pastedowns or eps, or any other kind of staining. A very nice copy. The only Baum published by Century or illustrated by Richardson. Initially published in ST NICKOLAS magazine. Bienvenue's 2009 OZ book says QUEEN ZIXI is one of the few of Baum's works to have professional editing and ".the story is among his finest.".
