First edition hardcover in beige paper covered boards with red spine title and a cow's skull in a circle shows sticker pulls and yellowed cello tape. Book has new endpapers and an old address label on the half title page. The 224 pp text is quite browned and brittle with a 1/2" closed tear at head of title page. Not exlib. Un-clipped dj is 5/8" too short for the book and the white backed mylar sleeve shows there. No call tags on spine, but there is some dark residue on the upper edge of dj, from possible old library style dj protector. Super rare in any condition, esp. in the jacket. From the day Bill Helgar rode into town just in time to stop a slug intended for Dan Trusand, the gambler, to the day he rode Blue Chip in the quarter-horse race, Bill stayed right in the middle of trouble. Smooth-talking Dan Trusand had more than aces up his sleeve. He owned Blue Chip, the favorite, and presumably wanted her to win - but who were the mysterious "miners" who had bet so heavily on her rival Rain Drop?
