Out of concern for the lack of understanding regarding the fait of Jewish people deported by the Nazis among French people Sartre wrote what is considered a landmark essay on anti-Semitism shortly after the liberation of Paris from the Nazis in 1944. "The portrait of the anti-Semite," the first part of the essay was published in the journal "Les Temps modernes" in December 1945, and the full text in 1946 by Paul Morihien. Among other things Sartre claims that anti-Semitism is a way of the middle class to lay claim to the nation they live in, defining this nationalistic viewpoint as an oversimplification of ones world view. Text in French. Previous owner's name in color pencil on front free endpaper: Jacquinod-Carry. Wraps with light wear along bottom edge of back cover. Some foxing of wraps and endpapers. Very small ink stain at top edge from pages 116 to 128. Wraps in overall good, interior in very good condition. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 47347
