Ave. Washington DC, H.W.McNeal, Prop.). CONDITION DESCRIPTION: Covers are well preserved with light rubbing to edges and spine ends. Gilt is bright. Front free endpaper has been trimmed. Contemporary owner's pencilled name on endpapers. Pages appropriately age-toned, free of foxing. With clear, mylar wrapper. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: The Guilford Grays were organized as a militia company in Greensboro on January 9, 1860. Thirteen officers were selected for the Infantry Company. On April 18, 1861, the forty-five members of the Grays left for Ft. Macon, NC, and by September 1862, they became Company B, 27th Regiment, North Carolina Troops. In February 1862, they were relocated to New Bern but were driven back to Kinston. They later fought in the Seven Days Battle, Malvern Hill, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Bristoe Station, the Wilderness, Cold Harbor and others, and surrendered at Appomattox.
