A signed, first edition copy of Rachel Seiffert's novel 'Afterwards'. Seiffert is a Booker Prize shortlisted author for her novel 'The Dark Room'. Signed to the title page, with the author's signature and 'Oxford 25th March 2007'. This novel was longlisted for the Orange Prize for Fiction the same year it was published. Seiffert writes about Alice and Joseph, a nurse and a painter decorator. They each have an emotional burden hidden to the other. Joseph refuses to speak of his time in the army in Northern Ireland and upon hearing Alice's widowed grandfather's own tales of the RAF something raw is tapped in Joseph. His reaction to the older man's unburdening of guilt from his RAF days is unexpected and devastating. Seiffert likes to write about the individual in history and how political and economic upheavals can impact ordinary lives. In the publisher's original cloth binding.
