Première édition française. Thomas Reid est un philosophe écossais. Dans cet ouvrage il prône le réalisme basé sur les cinq sens et s'oppose ainsi au système des idées, né avec la philosophie de Descartes. Le chapitre sur la vue donne lieu à de longs développements sur l'optique.
