Johann David Michaélis (1717-1791) est un érudit et professeur allemand, reconnu pour son travail et ses recherches à l'Université de Halle. Ses spécialités sont les civilisations et langues orientales, la civilisation hébraïque, la Philosophie, l'Histoire, la Littérature, la Géographie et les Sciences Naturelles. Il a notamment côtoyé les grand esprits allemands de son époque comme Auguste Schlegel (érudit et précursseur du mouvement romantique). The title translates into English as 'Collection of questions, proposed to a society of scholars, who by order of His Danish Majesty make the trip to Arabia'. Internally, the work is very well preserved and the pages are bright. Written by Johann David Michaelis the Prussian scholar and teacher, British Councillor, Professor of Philosophy, and member of Göttingen School of History. This particular work was issues as an accompanying volume to 'Description de l'Arabe by Carsten Neibuhr' a work also published by S. J. Baalde This volume contains a series of short essays that was presented to a group of scholars, being a history of the Arab world. A scarce and desirable work of Arabic history. In a mottled calf binding. Externally front board is detached but present. Externally rubbed to the head and tail of the spine, and also to the boards and extremities. Loss to the head and tail of the backstrip. Crack to the rear joint. Library blindstamp to the front board. Partially removed bookplate to the front pastedown, with rubbing to the front and rear pastedown and endpaper. The front endpaper and front blank are detached but present. Heavy spotting to the front and rear blanks. Internally, the work is in a very good indeed condition. The work is firmly bound. Pages are lightly cockled. Bright with the occasional spot.
