Russell Howell Gronow (1794-1865) served in the Welsh Grenadier Guards at Waterloo. At the end of his life he wrote these very popular and celebrated reminiscences, giving us a window into the life of a "dandy" during the Regency. Four volumes, in a Fine Binding by Zaehnsdorf. Smooth red leather, ruled in gilt; spine in black with five raised bands, decorated and ruled in gilt, Title and author in brown compartments titled in gilt. Top edges are gilt; with a ribbon marker. Clean texts with sequential publication dates. Volume One (1862) has x, 245 pages, with four plates; Volume 2 ("A Second Series),1863) has vii, 232 pages, with no plates; Volume Three ("Third Series" 1865) has a coloured frontis; and Volume Four ("Fourth and Final Series" 1866) has viii, 200 pages, with no plates. All volumes in Very Good (Plus) to Near Fine condition [Observed defects: the frontis illustration in Volume One has come loose but is present; Volume Three has a small tear at the head of the spine; Volume Four has some tanning to the textblock.
