First edition hardcover, bound in red cloth, with gilt lettering on front, and faded gilt lettering on spine, is in Fair condition, having a heavy water stain on bottom of of front cover, which carries in to the book to about the title-page; stain also on back; spine color faded slightly; some shaking to volume noted at beginning of book (endpaper section and title-page); some darkening and wear to closed page edges; slightly bumped and worn cover corners, and overall moderate surface and edge wear to covers; former bookseller has penciled on first fixed endpaper the following: "Member of Hayden Survey in Wyo & Nev. & prospector in bonanza period in Col, Nev.
