Beschreibung
These there parts are bound offprints from the Trans. Amer. Med. Assn., Vols 8-10, 1855-56. Volume 1: 8vo. 349-443 pp.; 71-232 pp. Volume 2: 241-453 pp. Part One is illustrated with 12 figs. and tables; Part Two with 4 plates and tables; Part 3 with 17 plates. Most of the plates have multiple figures. Rebound in 3/4 modern leather with original marbled papers over boards; new endpapers. Hamilton s work grew out of a collection of data on the results of treatment of fractures assembled in an effort to provide physicians with information to use in defending malpractice actions. Patients in the 19th century were as litigious as they are today. . . . reports on the results of the treatment of fractures were limited, vague and anecdotal, and they provided no information on what results could be anticipated in an average case. This is why Hamilton s publication of statistical tables that detailed end results in a large group of patients with a wide variety of fractures was so important. These tables served as the standard against which an individual case could be compared and had an incalculable influence on the results of suits for malpractice. Originally published piecemeal in the Transactions of the American Medical Association, they were collected and published in a single volume in 1855. Peltier (p45ff). Ex library with ink stamps. The binding is very fine. Very light scattered foxing else near fine. Uncommon. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 21233
