A scarce first edition copy of this classic poetic work by Samuel Naylor. The scarce first edition. Last seen in auction in 1960. In the publisher's original full cloth embossed binding The classic medieval fable of Reynard the Fox, translated and reproduced in rhyme by Samuel Naylor. With an introduction detailing the history of the apologue. Samuel Naylor was a writer and acquaintance of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. He was also a close personal friend and admirer of Ottilie von Goethe, the wife of Goethe's son. With the previous owner's neat gift inscription to the reverse of the front free endpaper. In the original full cloth. Externally, smart with some shelf wear to the edges. Cracking to the joints but still very firm. Spotting and marks to the boards. Spine is darkened. Marks to the paste-downs and free endpapers. Previous owner's ink inscription to the reverse of the front free endpaper. Internally, binding slightly strained but still firm. Pages age-toned to the edges with scattered spots throughout, heavier towards the front and rear. However, the text is still bright and clear. Very Good. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 843G15
