Beschreibung
This is a very rare book (there is no other for sale anywhere on the Internet) which accompanied an exhibition that took place between May 5 and May 30, 1974. From the preface "this exhibition is the result of a spring-term seminar offered by Konrad Oberhuber, Visiting Professor in the Fine Arts Department, on leave from the National Gallery, Washington, D.C. The object of the seminar was to study Italian Prints of the period 1500 to 1530 in the collection of the Fogg Art Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Another important purpose of the seminar was to give students the experience of organizing an exhibition; they chose the Prints to be shown and wrote the catalog entries." This book came from the estate of a Elizabeth H. Jones who served 22 years as head of the Conservation Department of the Harvard Art Museums, and who, beginning in 1967 devoted many months to the preservation and restoration of paintings, sculptures, and structures that were ravaged by floods in Venice, Italy. Working under the auspices of the Committee to Rescue Italian Art (CRIA), she spent the summers of 1969, 1971, and 1972 in Venice. During the academic year, when she was based in Cambridge, Mass., she participated in a number of events to raise funds for CRIA. She did not write her name in this book, although it was presumably inscribed to her by an unknown party 'To your Renaissance, Uz, 5/8/74', at the top right-hand corner of the second title page. The book is 93 pages long. I've rated it Very Good. As you can see there's a little bit of soiling on the front cover. The spine and the back cover are in very good condition. The book is very solidly bound. The pages are very good. They contain no writing or markings or creases. There is some dust soiling on the middle page edge which makes its way onto the white margins of a few of the early pages. If you Google the title, Worldcat will inform you, curiously, that the only libraries with a copy of this book are in Europe. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 000355
