1st UK Edition. 317pp. Octavo. Bound in original dark green cloth with gold gilt lettering stamped to the front board and spine. Bumping to top edge of front board and a touch of soiling to the back; corners and tail of spine a bit bumped as well. Cream coloured dust jacket has not been price clipped; some age toning and chipping to the top edge of both panels, with a small chip missing from the head of the spine. First printing of the British first edition, with the "G" missing from the word "go" on p. 221. Internally clean and an overall tight and bright copy. very good There are two first state dust jackets--this copy has the less colourful cream coloured jacket, which seems to be more suspectible to damage and, as such, scarce in this condition. The last complete novel by Conrad, taking place in France during the French Revolution on the south coast.
