Fifteen pages of text being a chronological diary of events in Shanghai between July and September 1937 followed by 88 pages of newspaper style photographs of bombings and fighting during the Japanese assault on Shanghai. All photos captioned, in a more journalistic rather than overtly propaganda style. End paper maps of the vicinity of Shanghai where fighting was ongoing. This book covers only the first few months of the fighting, and further expanded and updated issues with photographs by Shanghai Evening Post and Mercury Staff Photographers were released through the conflict. Previous owner's name of Capt. R.F. McBrierty to the half title and at the bottom in the same hand a note: "Purchased in Shanghai when 3rd officer of M.V. Penrith Castle 1937".
