He wrote this series between 1943 and 1978 and 'Strangers at Witchend' is a later book in the series. Much like many of the other books in the series, this book is set in the Shropshire hills and embeds the characters into the natural landscape; however, when strangers start arriving at the door, the Lone Pine Club have a mystery to solve.
